On March 10, 2022, the Ukrainian House in Strassen was officially opened in one of the municipalities of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg – Strassen.
The center was established to provide humanitarian, social, psychological, and educational support to Ukrainians seeking refuge in Luxembourg.
In April 2022, following an initiative by the Luxembourgish foundation EME, the director of the Ukrainian House in Strassen, Iurii Skobel, was invited to create and implement a dance project titled “Resist Dance” – a form of protest through dance.
This initiative aimed to present Ukrainian national culture through traditional choreography and to offer psychological support to Ukrainian women displaced by the war.
After the project concluded, and inspired by its success, some participants together with the director initiated the formation of the “Berehyni” Ukrainian Dance Ensemble in December 2022.
The ensemble’s repertoire features traditional Ukrainian folk-stage dances.
Its main mission is to preserve and promote Ukrainian dance art abroad, foster unity within the Ukrainian diaspora, and strengthen cultural self-identification. The ensemble encourages people from various regions of Ukraine to embrace their common national identity and the importance of preserving their cultural and genetic heritage.
Today, the “Berehyni” Ukrainian Dance Ensemble operates as an NGO with over 20 active members. Constantly expanding its repertoire, the ensemble regularly performs at various events supporting Ukraine, both in Luxembourg and throughout Europe.
